Surviving Spring Allergies

Surviving Spring Allergies

It’s probably safe to say that most people are excited when the weather begins to change and Spring blossoms. But the nicer weather can present a challenge for many who have spring allergies.

April through June are particularly tough, as they often bring watery eyes, runny noses and endless sneezing with their warmer temperatures.

The key culprits are the tiny, airborne pollen grains that come off trees, weeds and grasses. Another allergy trigger, outdoor mold spores, is found everywhere.

Pollen and mold are hard to avoid when you want to go outside and play, but there are numerous ways to alleviate allergy symptoms.

Here are Some Helpful Do’s and Don’ts for Coping with Spring-Time Allergies:

DON’T:
  • Don’t open the windows of your house and car during peak pollen times.
  • Don’t let your pets (especially long-haired ones) sleep in your bed as they can carry pollen in their fur.
  • Don’t stress. Stress causes your cytokine (the protein we produce as part of the allergic response) levels to raise thus increasing allergy symptoms.
DO:
  • Do switch up your allergy medications. You can become insensitive to medication after taking it for 4-6 weeks. You’ll want to switch to a different medication for around 2 weeks and then go back to your regular brand.
  • Do use Clear My Head products to help relieve congestion and boost your immune system.
  • Do change your air filter before each new season to remove pollen, dust and mold.
  • Do take a shower before you go to bed to rinse pollen off your hair and body.
  • Do get a Sinus Facial that relieves sinus pain with a pressure point massage, steam and eucalyptus aromatherapy.
